Cub Scouts Hike

Buddy is a Tiger Scout this year, and of course Daddy is the den leader, so the family has been to a lot of scouting events.  We even went hiking on a very chilly rainy day. The boys and siblings still had lots of fun.

My cool Cub Scout in his uniform for a picture.  He does not usually like his picture taken, this was no exception.

Hiking in the fall/winter can still be lots of fun and pretty in its own way.
Once in a while we let him out of the carrier and he gets to walk.  Don't be fooled, it didn't last long.
It is even tough to see the other side of the river.

Then the kids did some leaf rubbings, because with scouts you can never just do one thing.

Patuxent River Park

Fall is a great time for hiking.  We went to Patuxent River Park and had a great hike along the water and through the woods.  The leaves are just starting to change colors.

The boys were checking out the map.
She was begging me to let her take the leaf home. She didn't understand that we already had plenty of leaves at home.

Patuxent River Hike

We have been taking some time to go hiking lately, we love it and so do the kids.  This is the Patuxent River Research, and the National Wildlife Visitor Center.

More Fall Fun

We took a day and went for a walk along the beach at the National Wildlife Refuge, so far in South in Virginia Beach you can walk to North Carolina.  It was beautiful weather and we had a great walk. There were very few other people out there.
It was great for little fingers to play in the sand and to pick up horseshoe crab shells, and other shells.
For some it was a major hike that required hiking poles.
For others it was a nice ride.
For some it was a chance to wear a backpack with a dress.

Boys Backpacking

The boys got to go backpacking again.  Princess had a birthday party for a friend and decided to stay home.

The boys had a great time and even saw a bear.  I don't know what most of these pictures are, but it looks like they had fun.

Daddy's pack is heavier than Buddy, and almost the same size.
It was COLD, he is wearing a t shirt, a sweatshirt, a fleece and a rain coat, plus shorts and fleece pants.

Yes, they took a picture of Bear Scat.... I don't understand boys.

Backpacking

Daddy took Princess and Buddy hiking for a weekend.  Princess went with Daddy last year, but now it was Buddy's turn to join them.  They took the camera so I get to post their adventures.  I have no idea what these pictures show, but I am just glad that it looks like everyone enjoyed their adventures.

Apparently the kids also had pet caterpillars on the trail, and of course they had to take pictures.  I don't pretend to understand that one.

Baby Hiking

We are a hiking family, it is the one  sport like thing that we both like, and now we are getting the kids involved too.  Princess took her 1st hike at Round Top in Honolulu at 6 weeks old.

Buddy took his 1st hike in Pacific Grove at about 6 weeks, it was raining and since Princess wasn't even 2 years old yet she got to ride too.
Munchkin had her 1st hike when she was older, probably because it was January and really cold when she turned 6 weeks old.  I think her 1st hike was at 1st landing state park, she went camping at Kiptopeke State park at 6 months, so I know we went hiking in the really hot weather then. I can't find any pictures of her hiking.  Maybe I will find it later.

Scout had his first hike at 2 months old and hiked in Douthat State park and hiked lots in one week.
Now Daddy has started getting the kids backpacking and carrying all their supplies with them.  I will let him do that on his own.  I don't really need to do that one, day hikes are fine for me.

Spring, not really

The weather has been warmer and nice the past 2 weekends, so we have taken walks both weekends.  I wil post pictures of this weekend now, only because I can't wait to show you the new version of our family picture.   I love it and it makes me smile, but for once everyone is looking and everyone is smiling.  That is pretty rare in our household.

This is a great one of the kids and I love it.

Our hiking spot we have been to before (see this post) it has been a long time since we have been there and to see how the kids have grown.  Go look at that post, it seems like such a long time ago.  This is the same tree that we used for pictures then.

Now this little Munchkin can climb just as good as her brother and sister.
