Ink

This is what happens when you leave an ink pad within reach of a toddler. I scrubbed ink off her hands, her shirt, the door, and several walls.

Moving around

It has been becoming apparent that Princess can have her bedtime moved back a little, but how do you put 2 kids who are used to going to sleep in the same room to bed at different times. We decided to switch things around. We moved Princess into her own room and now Buddy and Munchkin share the big room. Princess loves having her own room and quickly made it her own big girl room. She put her Little ponies to bed in the bookshelf and set up all her stuffed animals on her bed.

Projects take 2.

I am very proud of all the work that we got done with my mom here. We have lived in this house for over 2 years and I never got around to putting up curtains in our bedroom. It is bad when my husband specifically asks for me to do something about that while my mom is here. So instead of making these, we went to Target and bought some. Since we have a wierd offset window in out bedroom, we decided to curtain a whole wall to make it look a little better. I love how they look, especially when I take the time to make the bed. Oh yeah and we did one other project. We have a problem with all the bags and coats by the front door. I don't have a coat closet, so they all end up piled on the floor and a bench by my front door. I have been trying to find a solution, especially as winter is coming and the coats tend to pile up even more. We bought 2 sets of hooks, and now everyone has a place to put stuff. They make look empty now, but wait till the kids add their school bags and coat season starts.

Projects

Grandma knows me well, she knows that sometimes I need a little bit of motivation to finish projects, or even to start them. She was here for 5 days and we got A LOT of stuff done. I am exhausted, but there is a great sense of accomplishment.

Remember this post of October last year here Well, after a full year my mom and I finally got the Roman shades sewn and put up in the kids room. I love them. This is the quilt on the wall and the shades open and when they are closes they look good too.

Busy weekend

Grandma coming to visit is always fun around here. She does lots of things that I never even think about doing with the kids. She taught Princess how to crack eggs, she got Nathan interested in the sewing machine. They also played post office with a bunch of envelopes I had gotten for free. They put on addresses, sealed the envelopes and got a bag to use, and each took turns playing mailman. The kids loved it, and now pull out the mailman bag whenever they wish to play.

Princess is 6!!

Princess turned 6 this week and it amazes me how much she is growing and learning. She loves 1st grade and she is starting to love violin. She got to celebrate early because Daddy was going to be out of town on her actual birthday. It was even more special because Grandma was in town for the weekend. We love Grandma!

Singing

We are a musical family lately....
This was the song of yesterday. It was really loud.

Violin

Princess has officially started violin lessons, and her Suzuki instructor has reqested that I get my own violin and learn with her through the twinkles. We will see how it goes, it is a lot more work than I anticipated. So far Buddy has learned how to stand, how to bow and the first little poem right along with his older sister. My violin is full size, hers is 1/10th size, it is a lot smaller.

Girls day

Sometime the girls need to have some time together. Daddy took the Munchkin and Buddy on errands, so Princess and I had some fun. We went to the used book store and exchanged some old books, for some new books. Then we went to the salon and both got our hair cut. Since mommy's took longer, Princess also had her nails painted. She loved it.

Of course she peeled off all the polish before bedtime, but she had fun getting it done.

Trash pickings

Some days you can find some really good stuff that other people throw away. This week we picked up a Power Wheels and a cool new bike for buddy. Now I have to figure out what to get rid of to make room. We have way too many toys in the backyard.

Dirt

Hey, how did this dirt get all over me?

Labor day

Other than our trip to the ER we had a good labor day weekend. We took the kids apple picking and got a bunch of apples and vegetables. Now I need to make pie and maybe some applesauce. Then we took a ride on the Currituck ferry, the kids thought that was the best part. They got to check out all the stuff on the boat. Buddy thought the motorcycles on the ferry were the best. It was a great day out of the city.

Yet one more ER visit

It wouldn't be summer around here if we didn't have some minor injuries, this weekend we had two.
Munchkin fell and hit her face on the rocking chair and gave herself a very pretty black eye. It was pretty this morning with her dress and pigtails. Then since the weather is a little cooler, we were working outside and were burning some small branches. Buddy touched the top of the fire pit cover after it was just taken off the fire, he was trying to help daddy and since it wasn't currently on the fire he didn't expect it to be hot. Well, we rushed him to the ER with 2nd degree burns on his hand. He will be OK, but it hurt a lot and they gave us some Tylenol with codeine. The drugs made him a little loopy, but he fell asleep soon. It will be a quiet week at home for him. We will have to put lotion on it and bandage it every day. But.. since it is his right hand maybe a few days of not being able to suck his thumb will break him from the habit.

Matching

Since the kids wear uniforms, they can frequently go to school in matching outfits. Today they specifically asked for even Munchkin to match. It was cute.
